Amazon to release its Kindle Fire tablet today, second tablet may be coming Jan 2012

Today is Amazon’s big tablet day. The company is expected to launch the Amazon Fire tablet, but even before it has rolled out, rumors are already giving an exact date for a follow-up allegedly arriving in January 2012. The second Amazon Android tablet will be the company’s serious bid in the tablet segment with today’s announcement merely “a stopgap” designed to please Holiday season shoppers.

The reason for such a weird product cycle? Allegedly, it’s a delay in the first-gen Amazon tablet.

Except for that, summing up expectations and rumors for the tablet, we’re looking at a 7-incher similar to RIM’s PlayBook, but with a much different software. The tablet will still possibly run Android, but with so many customizations that it’ll be hardly anything you’ve seen before.

Amazon expected to unveil tablet to compete with iPad on Sept. 28

Amazon.com is expected to announce a long-rumored tablet at a media event in New York on Wednesday, setting up a showdown with Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) dominant iPad just ahead of the holiday shopping season.
Amazon sent out invitations to a press conference that starts at 10 a.m. Wednesday, but declined to offer any more details. However, analysts predict that Amazon will use the event to unveil its tablet product, predicted to be a color version of its popular Kindle ereader that runs on Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android platform.
Details about the as-yet-unnamed Amazon tablet remain scarce, including whether it will offer cellular connectivity. However, a consensus among analysts and bloggers is that it will have a smaller screen that the iPad–either 7 or 9 inches–though a second tablet with a larger screen is expected next year. However, Amazon’s content strategy and ecosystem for the tablet will be a key area of focus, since that is where it will compete most directly with Apple. Some analysts think Amazon’s cloud services could give it a leg up against Apple and others in the tablet market.

Justice Department blocks AT&T – T-Mobile merger

AT&T’s (NYSE: T) proposed $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile is in jeopardy, after the U.S. Justice Department filed a lawsuit aimed at blocking the deal.
DOJ said it is concerned that the acquisition would thwart innovation in the wireless sector, and result in higher prices for mobile telecom services for consumers.
The lawsuit could impact other potential deals in the broadband wireless sector, including talks that Sprint (NYSE: S) has reportedly had with cable MSOs about increasing their investment in Clearwire (Nasdaq: CLWR).
